Second in English job summary

Westfield School is seeking to appoint a professional with the passion, knowledge and skills to help lead Westfield English faculty on its continuing journey of improvement. The English department has an effective spiralled curriculum throughout KS3 and KS4 that enables responsive teaching and assessment, where both students’ progress and staff wellbeing are at the heart of our focus on whole class feedback. We are fortunate to have a suite of English classrooms equipped with interactive whiteboards and state of the art visualisers; at the end of the English corridor is a modern library which houses fortnightly KS3 lessons with the Library and Reading Coordinator. The English team consists of 15 members of staff ranging from Deputy Head to ECT, and is led by an experienced, research-focused Head of English. Both the Head of English and Director of English across Chorus Trust will work with the Second in English supporting the development of the successful candidate’s leadership, helping them shape the vision of Westfield English. They will also play a vital role in ensuring continued increase of outcomes for all students, including building on above national GCSE English Language grades 7-9 resulting from 150% progress increase from 2019.

Currently, the Second in English leads KS3, however, for the right candidate this is open for negotiation, as is the start date.

The successful candidate will be:

  • an excellent teacher with innovative practice to share
  • resilient and unwavering in their commitment to enabling every student to develop their potential
  • an effective team player, with vision, enthusiasm, and drive to guide the curriculum

Benefits include:

  • CPD support from one of the largest Teaching Schools, the Sheffield Teaching School Alliance, throughout your career.
  • Opportunities to develop skills and experience as part of a growing, local Trust.

There will be no need to go elsewhere – your career will flourish with us.

Commitment to safeguarding

At Chorus Trust we are committed to the Safeguarding of all our pupils, please visit our website to access our Safeguarding & Child Protection policy https://www.chorustrust.org/policies

The Trust will also conduct an online search of the successful candidate in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education advice.

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Disclosure & Barring check in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 and the Police Act Regulations.
