What skills and experience we're looking for

We seek to appoint a motivated and ambitious Second in Science, due to the external promotion of the current post-holder. You may already be an experienced Second in Department, looking for a new opportunity in a growing school, or this could be your first role as an aspiring middle leader. We are looking for someone with resilience, a genuine interest in the cognitive science of learning and someone who has a vision to develop the way that we assess our students, in order to secure their knowledge and understanding.

The successful candidate will:

Support the Head of Science to continue to develop an interleaving curriculum in Science, where students deepen their learning and develop schema
Seek out both internal and external enrichment opportunities to take the students’ learning beyond the classroom
Link curriculum learning to careers by coordinating encounters with further and higher education as well as embedding ways for our students to learn from labour market information
Drive forward the quality of teaching and learning in the department, with a focus on cognitive science research
Work alongside the Head of Science to monitor the overall progress and attainment of students, using data to rationalise necessary interventions
Lead by example in the department when delivering the syllabus, amending resources, reviewing medium-term plans, following marking policies, carrying out formative and summative assessment and trialling teaching strategies
