What skills and experience we're looking for
We seek to appoint a motivated and ambitious Second in Science, due to the external promotion of the current post-holder. You may already be an experienced Second in Department, looking for a new opportunity in a growing school, or this could be your first role as an aspiring middle leader. We are looking for someone with resilience, a genuine interest in the cognitive science of learning and someone who has a vision to develop the way that we assess our students, in order to secure their knowledge and understanding.
The successful candidate will:
- Support the Head of Science to continue to develop an interleaving curriculum in Science, where students deepen their learning and develop schema
- Seek out both internal and external enrichment opportunities to take the students’ learning beyond the classroom
- Link curriculum learning to careers by coordinating encounters with further and higher education as well as embedding ways for our students to learn from labour market information
- Drive forward the quality of teaching and learning in the department, with a focus on cognitive science research
- Work alongside the Head of Science to monitor the overall progress and attainment of students, using data to rationalise necessary interventions
- Lead by example in the department when delivering the syllabus, amending resources, reviewing medium-term plans, following marking policies, carrying out formative and summative assessment and trialling teaching strategies
