Secondary SEMH Teacher job summary

At West SILC, we believe education should be restorative, relational, and real. Our secondary SEMH provision is a place where learners are seen, heard and valued – and where education goes far beyond the classroom.

We’re looking for a passionate, trauma-informed, and creative teacher to join our dynamic SEMH team, working with learners in Key Stages 4 and 5 who face complex barriers to learning, including SEMH needs, autism, learning difficulties and sensory differences.

What Makes Us Different?

We don’t do one-size-fits-all. Instead, we adapt every part of the curriculum to meet learners’ needs, interests, and goals – blending functional skills with therapeutic learning, emotional development, and preparation for adulthood.

Our learners are working towards real outcomes – whether that’s gaining qualifications, managing their emotions, developing relationships, or preparing for work and independence.

At the heart of everything is care, connection, and high expectation.

What You’ll Do:

Deliver a curriculum tailored to each learner’s strengths and EHCP

Plan engaging, hands-on lessons that promote confidence, regulation, and independence

Work as part of a trauma-informed team of educators, therapists, and pastoral staff

Champion restorative practice, Zones of Regulation, and person-centred support

Help learners take ownership of their futures – both emotionally and practically

Your Classroom Will Be a Place Where:

✨ Every learner is respected and believed in
✨ Emotional wellbeing is supported as much as academic progress
✨ Independence and voice are at the centre
✨ Challenges are met with patience, creativity, and care
✨ Progress is measured in joy, confidence, and connection

What You Bring:

🔹 QTS/QTLS and a passion for inclusive education
🔹 Experience working with SEMH learners in a mainstream, SEND, AP or PRU setting
🔹 A warm, consistent and emotionally available approach
🔹 Strong classroom management rooted in relationships and regulation
🔹 High expectations and the belief that every young person can succeed

In Return, You’ll Receive:

🔹 Ongoing training in trauma-informed, therapeutic and inclusive practice
🔹 A close-knit, supportive team who genuinely care about each other
🔹 Time to reflect, adapt and collaborate so your impact is meaningful
🔹 The chance to be part of a life-changing, learner-led journey every single day

This isn’t just a teaching job.
It’s a chance to rewrite futures.
To walk alongside young people who need you most.
To be the adult that makes the difference.

Apply now and be part of something powerful.
