Secondary Teacher x 2 job summary
What We Are Looking For
The school has a dynamic and varied pupil base and we are looking to appoint two teachers to join our team to provide our young people with exceptional educational opportunities. We wish to appoint outstanding teachers who can demonstrate a desire to work within SEND, and, most importantly, at Alderman Knight. Although special school experience is not essential, candidates will need to demonstrate why they want to work in this area. We want staff with a passion and flair for teaching children with a range of needs and are committed to becoming positive, active and supportive members of the school community.
The Role
The school is continuing to grow and it is planned that the number on roll will increase to 208 by September 2021. Therefore we need to increase our teaching capacity. At this time we need to provide additional teaching capacity in IT, Maths, Science, Art and DT.
We are currently looking for two teachers who can help fill these gaps. At our school all teachers often have to teach more than one subject so we would welcome applications from teachers who can offer at least two of these subjects and who would be confident to teach them across KS3 and KS4. Pupils in KS3 and KS4 are grouped according to need as well as age so there are some mixed aged groups. Pupils are then taught within these tutor groups and will predominantly follow a mainstream model being taught by specialist teachers in specialist rooms.
As a secondary teacher at Alderman Knight, you must have an excellent knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum. You will also have the ability to differentiate learning experiences to match the needs of the individual and enable all pupils to enjoy their learning and make outstanding progress.

If you decide to apply for the post we would like you to complete the online Eteach application form. Please read the Recruitment Policy for full details.

Our School
Alderman Knight is a Local Authority educational provision for children and young people whose needs cannot be met in mainstream settings.
The school provides these young people with an enriched and extended curriculum, tailored to individual needs and supports them to achieve their potential within a supportive environment where they feel safe and happy to learn. This will help them develop positive feelings of self-worth and confidence and will enable them to make a successful transition to adulthood and be active and responsible citizens.
In addition to providing education, the school ensures a holistic approach that will develop resilience and help address additional needs that might impact on their ability to learn. This may include complex needs including learning, communication and interaction including social, emotional and mental health needs. The school is commissioned to provide a range of support strategies and approaches as needed by individual pupils in order to help pupils start to address any issues which affect their learning.
There are currently 173 children and young people on roll.
Pupils’ have a wide attainment range. In the primary phase the majority of the pupils are working towards KS 1 expectations. However across the secondary phase attainment can reach KS3 expectations and pupils achieve a wide range of accreditations including Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications and GCSEs. Some students in KS5 have the opportunity to study Level 3 qualifications within the neighbouring secondary school.
What We Can Offer
The school is located just off Junction 9 of the M5. Both the main school building and the Post-16 Centre are new, attractive and spacious buildings being built in 2013 and 2017 respectively. The learning and working environments are second to none. In addition, the school can offer:
