Job Title: SEMH Support Worker
Location: Cliff Park Ormiston Academy
Salary Range: OAT Grade 6 Point 20-25 (£25,029 - £28,248 actual)
37 Hours per week 40 Weeks per year
(Additional weeks to be worked flexibly to meet the requirements of the academy)
Hours o7 hours pe Responsible to: Vice Principal, Partnerships
Purpose: To support the leadership team to implement effective strategies to promote positive and healthy behaviours through the effective co-ordination of the SEMH Support Worker
We are looking for an exemplary pastoral practitioner, who is motivated, enthusiastic, experienced and committed to supporting young people in the academy environment. The successful candidate will work with our most vulnerable students ensuring high standards of behaviour, engagement in learning and achievement.
Main Responsibilities
§ Oversee the day to day running of the SEMH area
iai Liaise with SENCO to meet the needs of students with EHC plans or additional needs for students in SEMH room.
§ Plan, prepare and deliver direct and structured reflection and restorative activities with students in order to advance their progress- in groups including coaching and mentoring, where required and as guided and instructed.
§ Plan with the student a timed intervention over a period of time so the student knows when the intervention will be completed.
§ Keep logs for each student and advise next steps if further intervention is needed.
§ Managing the day-to-day routines within the SEMH area maintaining the veryhighest standards of engagement and maintaining consistently high expectationsof students.
§ Provide relevant leaders with a summary of work / activities undertaken in the SEMH area providing them with guidance to ensure that support, if relevant, can be transferred to the classroom.
§ Contributing to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare and personal care of students.
§ Be aware of and support difference and ensure equal opportunities for all.
§ Contributing to the overall ethos/work/aims of the academy.
§ Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
§ In conjunction with the SENDCo and other SEND staff, organise initial screening to determine need and plan a programme of interventions.
§ Any other duties deemed appropriate
Performance Management:
T The post holder will participate in the academy’s arrangements for performance management.
Other Duties:
To assist the Principal in ensuring that the academy runs smoothly, and acting in a management capacity, as the need arises. This includes:
Actively promoting the academy’s high expectations and equal opportunities policy.
• Maintaining sound procedures for security, supervision, and maintenance of the school environment, ensuring that all safeguarding/health and safety regulations are met.
• Modelling the highest standards of professional conduct, supporting and driving excellence in all practice within the academy; ensuring that Cliff Park Ormiston Academy and the Ormiston Academies Trust is always presented positively within and beyond the academy.
Notes:
All staff are part of a wider academy team. Each individual, therefore, is required to support the values/ethos of the academy and the academy priorities as defined in the Academy Improvement Plan. This will mean being responsive to the needs of colleagues, parents and students and being flexible in a demanding environment. On occasions the post holder may be expected to carry out additional tasks, as requested
by the Principal and Governors, which are not specifically specified in this job description.
• All staff in the academy work subject to statute and academy policies and procedures. The post holder will be expected to become familiar with these and work in accordance with them.
• Due to the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of Criminal Record Disclosure to be undertaken. It is essential that post holders disclose whether they have any pending charges, convictions, bind-overs or cautions and if so, for which offences. Any failure to disclose such convictions will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the academy.
