What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and ambitious person as a Teacher of SEN to start in September 2023.

This position would suit an experienced teacher or an ECT who has a passion for working with SEN children. A primary trained teacher who wishes to make a transfer to secondary would also be considered for this role.

The Inclusion Support team is a cohesive provision, covering academic, behaviour and mental health provision across the two campuses. The Teacher of SEN will be based in the Inclusion and Support area across both campuses and the successful candidate must also be willing to liaise and work alongside the senior team, other Provision Leads in the faculty as well as teaching staff across both campuses to ensure that all stakeholders in a pupil’s education have an understanding of their provision and expertise is shared across the faculty and school. This will entail attending faculty meetings and planning time in order to effectively share expertise. The post holder will be required to take part in and lead annual reviews and liaise with parents and disseminate information to the Inclusion and Support Team. The teacher of SEN will be required to carefully consider the needs and provision for each student and making clear decisions about the intervention, provision and academic development of students with EHCPs and specific students within the wider school.

This position will require someone who can empathise with students whilst holding them to high expectations. Good communication skills and an ability to clarify and explain instructions clearly are essential. You must be professionally discreet, have well developed interpersonal skills and a good sense of humour. The ability to build appropriate and effective relationships with staff, students and parents is essential.

What the school offers its staff

If appointed as an ECT the post will be payable from 1st July 2023 in order to help in your preparation before the September start.

We will ensure that the successful candidate has:

  • comprehensive induction including a dedicated mentor
  • continuous professional learning, development and improvement
  • the opportunity to contribute to raising standards for all our students

Further details about the role

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, adaptive and ambitious Teacher of SEN for September 2023 to be part of the Inclusion and Support Faculty at Crestwood Community School. Crestwood Community School is one school with two separate campuses serving central Eastleigh with a large Inclusion and Support Faculty which is overseen by the Achievement Leader and two Assistant Achievement Leaders for Inclusion and Support. The successful applicant will be joining Crestwood at an exciting time as the faculty is developing and continuing to grow in not only size but also expertise. We are currently oversubscribed, this is due to our reputation in the local community for our culture of care, pastoral systems and SEN support. We are looking for somebody who can continue to contribute to this culture and become an integral part in the leadership of this faculty, ensuring that students who access the provision continue to have the highest quality education, intervention and provision to meet their needs.

For the successful candidate, a commitment to raising standards and a passion for developing young adults is essential: this entails a commitment to all learners, to excellence for all, and a belief that a good school makes a significant difference to learners’ life chances, levels of attainment and the wellbeing of the community as a whole.

Commitment to safeguarding

Crestwood Community School and Hampshire County Council are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.

Crestwood Community School is one school, with two campuses serving central Eastleigh. Crestwood Community School had an Ofsted inspection in June 2018, which confirmed that we are a ‘good’ school. We also achieved outstanding gradings in Personal Development and Behaviour and Leadership. They also said that as a school we are “passionately committed to providing a first-class inclusive education for all pupils; tenacious in their pursuit of additional resources and approaches to continually improve provision.” This is a happy school, where staff and students want to be. The #Crestwoodfamily pervades through everything we do.
