SEND Teacher
Start date: 1st September 2025
Hermitage Primary School is looking to appoint a highly motivated, talented teacher to join our team of teaching staff from 01 September 2025. This is a full-time role for a teacher who is passionate about teaching SEN pupils to work with a team of support staff and the school’s SENCo to plan and deliver learning for a small group of high-needs SEND pupils within our Resource Provision (ASC) and Hub (SEMH). The post is initially for one year with the potential for this to be extended to a permanent position.
The successful candidate will be a practitioner who demonstrates high expectations and the ability and passion to engage SEND learners. They will have good team skills, flexibility and a sense of humour. Candidates should indicate their relevant experience, skills and interests in their letter of application and link these to the Person Specification.

Job Description
- To manage the teaching of a group Special Needs children in accordance with DFE conditions of employment document 2004 and school’s employment documents
- To ensure the quality of the children’s learning and the smooth running of the school by following the school’s policy documents, procedures, schemes of work and the agreed staff handbook
This post requires you to teach pupils in the range 4 - 11
The success of the school is a shared responsibility therefore it is expected that all teachers participate in the development of school. Teachers’ duties are summarised as follows;
- To plan appropriate work for all children in your care having regard for their stage of development and ability
- To create and maintain a positive, stimulating and supportive learning environment that reflects the needs of the children and promotes independent learning
- To produce learning plans which ensure the correct curriculum content, pitch and adaptations to be used. To plan for the grouping of children, TA support, projects, visits and teaching strategies.
- To liaise with class teachers and the SENCo when planning individual timetables so that each pupil can access the appropriate mainstream sessions and learning experiences
- To regularly assess and record progress.
- To set appropriate individual targets based on the child’s EHCP and individual assessment data
- Regularly and proactively communicate with parents fostering mutual respect and understanding.
- To formally report on each child’s progress to parents at Parents’ Evenings
- To write end of year reports to parents.
- To give proper emphasis to the children’s wider development including life skills and communication skills for example.
- To use positive behaviour techniques and strategies including where needed, bespoke plans, with the support of the SENCo and appropriate external professionals such as the Educational Psychologist.
- To consult colleagues, seek advice, share ideas and be prepared to give and receive constructive criticism to stimulate personal and group development.
- To strive for the highest possible professional standards for the sake of the children and the school as a whole.
- Be committed to having high expectations of children and adults alike.
- Be committed to procedures and regulations/law in respect of health and safety and safeguarding.
