Person Specification Teaching Assistant - Primary with SEN Essential Desirable How Identified

Qualifications

NVQ level 2 or 3 or equivalent (eg. NNEB)

KS1 & EYSF

Evidence of training and further professional development

Evidence of training specifically relating to SEN (eg TEACCH/PECS/Intensive interaction)

Experience

  • Experience in both key stages along with E.Y.F.S.
  • Ability to support the implementation of strategies suggested by colleagues and external advisors
  • Experience of working with pupils with social/communication/emotional difficulties and other SEN eg Autism
  • An understanding of the importance of building a trusted relationship to meet a child's social and emotional needs
  • To act as a key adult to model and support allowing for success to support self-esteem

Working in a primary school or nursery / preschool.

Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder with associated communication and interaction difficulty.

Experience of delivering speech and language activities and strategies to enhance communication.

An understanding of teaching approaches to control impulses and manage behaviour

Experience working 1:1 as well as with small groups under the guidance of a teacher.

St. Oswald's Worleston CE Primary School is a traditional church school set in the heart of rural Cheshire just north of Nantwich. St. Oswald's school was first built in 1897 during the Victorian Era and serves the local rural community with roughly 120 children attending the school at present. Our small school has its own Nursery and takes children from the age of 3 years old right through to the end of their Primary School journey. There is a dedicated Nursery setting and Reception Class and then children are educated in mixed age group classes with relatively small class sizes. Ours school mantra is 'We are a caring Christian family where we grow together'. This care and nurture of all members of our community is something that is lived out every day at our school. Visits to the school are welcomed and encouraged in order to see, first hand, the learning going on both inside and outside the classroom environment.
