Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant and MDSA

MDSA Grade 16, Band 2 (£24,413)
Contract: 1 year fixed term until 31st August 2026
Hours: 25.42 (Teaching Assistant) 6.25 (MDSA)
Responsible to: Headteacher
St Benedict’s Catholic Primary School, who are part of Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust (DCET), is seeking to appoint a SEN Teaching Assistant with MDSA.
Relationships are at the heart of St Benedict’s. Pupils, staff and parents feel a part of this warm, friendly school community.
Desirable skills/experience:
Has experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Can help to adapt the curriculum and create engaging, accessible learning opportunities tailored to the child’s individual needs.
Is proactive and able to use their initiative to introduce creative and effective approaches to learning.
Makaton training is desirable, though not essential.
Experience of working in an educational setting.
Supportive of mental health needs within children.
Ability to work in a team to support and create the best experience for children to enable them to meet their full potential.
Be flexible to do a range of tasks and to use own initiative when required.
Knowledge of how to incorporate visual and concrete resources into planning to support learning would be of use.
Good literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE or ‘O’ Level Grade C or above or equivalent).
Work within, and act upon, the advice of class teacher and SENCo.
Have experience of working with children.
Be an excellent communicator and team player.
Work within our school’s rigorous safeguarding policies and procedures.
Remain calm, confidential and professional in all situations.
In addition, this role includes Midday supervisory duties that will include:
Setting up / clearing away the lunch hall
Clear spillages and cleaning the floor
Helping children with their lunches e.g cutting food
Encouraging children to eat their lunches
Minor first aid incidents
Other tasks as specified by the school’s leadership team
