Natalie our Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team
are looking to appoint a hard working and dedicated teaching
assistant to work at The Mendip School.
As a teaching assistant at our school, the role is incredibly varied meaning you could be providing more general classroom support and at other times you could be working on a 1:1 basis with an individual child.
Pupils at The Mendip School tell us they love coming to school, that they feel safe and they are free to be themselves. Staff tell us that working at The Mendip School is never boring, every day is different and working with our children gives them a huge sense of job satisfaction. We are a friendly and supportive team, when people visit they comment on the positive attitude of both the students and our staff. Building positive relationships is key at The Mendip School.
Staff and Governors have high aspirations for our children and we aim to provide a high quality, relevant and balanced education that is accessible for all as learning can look different for everyone. At our school the curriculum is aided by therapeutic interventions and the environment the school and staff create. We work really hard as a whole school community to create an environment that ensures our pupils progress towards a happy and fulfilled life.
The post holder’s responsibilities include the meeting of pupils’ emotional, social and physical needs and liaising with teaching staff in the development and delivery of a differentiated curriculum.
Applicants will need to be confident, resilient and have excellent communication skills.
We are a hard-working and enthusiastic team who enjoy the challenges and opportunities of working within a school environment.
Previous experience of working in a special school is an advantage, although training will be provided. The position will be an excellent opportunity for colleagues looking for a new challenge. Applicants from specialist or mainstream settings are encouraged.
What we can offer you:
- High quality CPD
- A friendly and supportive working environment
- An employee assistance programme offering counselling, legal advice and financial support
- A fun, supportive and exciting work place

Thank you for expressing an interest in working The Mendip School, a school for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and Speech, Language and Communication Needs aged 4-19.
The Mendip School is part of the multi-academy trust partnership known as The Partnership Trust. This status allows the school to be more autonomous and to focus on initiatives that raise aspiration and achievement for children and young people.
The Mendip School staff and governors are committed to and passionate about the learning and progress of our pupils. We have high aspirations for our young people and we aim to provide a high quality, relevant and balanced education for all our pupils that focuses on individual, personal and academic achievement. Students are taught in small groups, usually with more than one member of staff in attendance. There is a happy and positive atmosphere in which young people can fulfill their potential and grow in self-confidence with respect for the people and environment around them.
We would welcome applications from people who may currently be working in mainstream schools as full training and support programmes are offered to those who have limited experience of working in a special school.
