SEN Teaching Assistant, Level 3 job summary
We are looking to appoint a SEN Teaching Assistant, who will work in
partnership with classroom teachers to differentiate appropriate support for
pupils with Special Educational Needs.
To meet the needs of the school, the
successful candidate will be required to work predominantly in Year 5 this year
but as a SEND TA, can be asked to work with children across all year groups.
candidates will be highly motivated, positive and enthusiastic, love working
with children and helping them to strive to achieve against their targets.
What we are looking for:
The successful candidate should
- Be able to develop positive relationships with
- Be able to stay calm and objective when
presented with unusual or challenging behaviour
- Have experience of supporting children with
moderate to severe SEN needs, including autism, ADHD,
behavioural, social and emotional learning difficulties, speech and language
- Be enthusiastic and committed to working as
part of a team
- Be a confident and clear communicator with
- Have GCSEs or equivalent level, including at
least a Grade 4 (previously Grade C) in English and Maths
You must be willing to:
- support and uphold

- design and prepare
resources to support language development and understanding as well as
resources to support children with difficulties in cognition and learning
- implement strategies
as recommended by professionals, e.g. Speech and Language Therapist, which
might include, but are not limited to, teaching language through categorisation
tasks and games, sequencing activities, pre and post tutoring of key
vocabulary, and using a phonological and semantic approach when teaching new
- work in consultation
with the class teacher to create an environment which is language rich, in
terms of spoken language and the use of complementary communication systems
such as visual symbols.

with children with SEN on both a 1:1 basis or within the general classroom environment
- Experience supporting children with

emotional learning difficulties, speech and language needs
- Knowledge of the Early
Years, KS1, KS2 curriculum
in using ICT to support children
- Knowledge of
teaching phonics and early mathematics
