What skills and experience we're looking for

Riverview Federation is already firmly established as leading the way for inclusive practice with highly successful provisions such as our Discover Groups, The Attendance Hub and Headway across our 2 schools; Baysgarth School and Castledyke Primary School. Provisions that understand that the needs of children are all different.

Across Riverview we believe every child should have access to the right provision and support and, as such, we are embarking on developing a unique provision in collaboration with the Local Authority for children in Year 6 and 7, who are struggling to thrive in mainstream and need further support in the transition phase.

This is the first provision of this kind to be implemented in the Local Authority and we are proud to be the flagship for inclusion across primary and secondary. The provision will have its own curriculum based on the needs of the children and will be designed to accurately assess what the individual child needs to be successful in terms of the right provision and environment.

The pathway will have children from Baysgarth and then children placed within the provision via the Local Authority. These children will have a range of SEMH and communication and language needs and need a different provision to the mainstream offer. There will be approximately 10 children in the provision with additional adult support and the successful applicant will deliver a bespoke curriculum based on a primary model.

All our provisions are successful because of the outstanding staff team, who are committed to working with young people with additional needs and have the expertise, skills and knowledge to really make a difference. We know that getting the right people makes all the difference for children and their families.

Therefore, we are seeking a KS2 or KS3 teacher with the passion and commitment to working with children with additional needs to be specialist teacher and SENCO within this new provision.

We are looking for someone who shares our vision for high quality support and is flexible, dynamic and innovative in achieving the very best care, support and curriculum for our children. As leader for this provision, you will have the opportunity to be involved in the planning from the beginning, making this a unique opportunity for the right candidate. You must be motivated to undertake professional development and be willing to work towards the SENCO qualification if you do not have it currently.

What the school offers its staff

In return, the successful applicant will join a school whose family values mean that they recognise the importance of a well supported and resourced staff. We offer:

  • Work life balance is a strong aspect of all leaders’ work and as such our staff community thrives with excellent staff retention.

  • High levels of professional trust and empowerment

  • Outstanding resources and facilities

  • Community based school who recognise the important role the school plays in the town

  • Strong leadership at all levels which seeks to involve staff in decision making

  • Bespoke CPD programme for every member of staff, based on individual needs and aspirations

  • Leadership and Management programme including coaching, mentoring and shadowing opportunities

Riverview is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to apply for enhanced disclosure from the DBS.

Do you have what it takes to work one of the top 5% of schools nationally?
If so, we want to hear from you!

Our students are amazing. They are intelligent, articulate, funny, welcoming and appreciative of great teaching. They deserve the best and we intend to make sure that this is what they receive, in every subject, every day of their school lives.

Our staff are phenomenal. They are dedicated, passionate, dynamic, caring and inspiring. We strongly feel we have a world class team and we firmly believe that in every department we have strong teams that are capable of creating the truly great school that this community deserves.

Our facilities are outstanding. With over a £10 million of investment, our school boasts state-of-the-art classrooms, fantastic IT facilities, an unrivalled on-site Sports Village which includes a full-size 3G football pitch, a skate park and a dance studio, along with a partnered Alternative Provision. This was further enhanced by a brand-new six classroom block which opened in summer 2022.

Together, this makes Baysgarth one of the top performing schools in the Humber region, with eight consecutive years of record breaking, outstanding results. Our high-ability students make more progress than in any other local school and our inclusive wraparound care for every single student nurtures them to believe in themselves and their potential and reach their ambitions, now and in the future.

To build on this, we are currently looking for a highly motivated, creative and committed Teacher of History with the skills and experience to offer outstanding experiences for students in both KS3 and KS4. The Humanities team is vibrant and dynamic, offering amazing experiences inside and outside the classroom. The suitable candidate will share this passion and drive, and have the ambition to elevate History to be the most successful subject in the school.

We are oversubscribed in almost every single year group, which reflects the first-class facilities we have on site as well as our fantastic students and staff who make the school a great place to learn. We pride ourselves on achieving outstanding outcomes in a school with an inclusive ethos that has superb pastoral care and a strong commitment to staff mental health and work-life balance.

Baysgarth continues to be a Good school that is ‘making good progress on the journey to outstanding’ according to Ofsted, who visited most recently in January 2023. Inspectors described the school to “have created an inclusive community” where “pupils are well cared for”, “have access to a wide range of enrichment opportunities”, “benefit from high-quality teaching”, along with having access to “a range of experiences that go beyond the national curriculum…experiences that they may not otherwise have had”. Leadership and governance is strong, with “a clear vision” and “high expectations”. Baysgarth is consistently one of the top performing schools in the Humber region and it is our mission to recruit the most talented staff to cement our excellent reputation.

Baysgarth School is an 11-16 comprehensive with approximately 970 pupils on roll; a number that will rise to well over 1,000 in the next few years. The successful candidate will be expected to have pride, passion, positivity and vision and a desire to ensure the school has the highest possible reputation in the local community and beyond.
