What skills and experience we're looking for

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate, and innovative SENCo to join our team at Howard of Effingham School. We are looking for an inspirational teacher with the ability to create a nurturing learning environment, a commitment to ‘Bringing out the Best’ in every student, and a genuine passion for their subject. The ability to teach to A level is desirable but not essential.

Teaching and Learning is at the heart of everything we do at the Howard, and we prioritise planning time for teachers with 16% PPA compared with the 10% national average. The Howard is a place where you really do have the space to teach, and we encourage colleagues to try new things, take risks, and have fun in the classroom. Our teachers are encouraged to be themselves whilst reflecting on the latest developments in pedagogy and how they can be applied. Central to our ethos are the positive relationships and personalised approach which we take with all our students.

As a Howard teacher, you will be fully supported both within the faculty and by the senior leadership team. Our outstanding staff and students make us a great place to work, and you will find plenty of opportunities to socialise and get to know your new colleagues. When you join us, you will gain access to our extensive CPD programme and be well supported in achieving a realistic work/life balance.

Being part of The Howard Partnership Trust (THPT) will provide you with a wealth of opportunities, including excellent career progression routes. Regardless of your experience or level of responsibility, you will find a range of exciting opportunities to ensure that you can constantly develop and progress.

PPA time at THPT Schools is generous, with teachers receiving 16% PPA compared to the 10% national average.

What the school offers its staff

The Howard is a welcoming, creative, and community-based school where through our values of Ambition, Opportunity, and Inclusion we set high standards which enable our students to develop into proud, confident, and responsible members of the global community. It is the lead school in the Howard Partnership Trust, and a great place to work: with a real focus on collegiality and staff wellbeing.

Students at the Howard enjoy and are reflective about their learning, and teachers develop and explore the passions for their subjects. We offer a broad and rich curriculum which allows our students to thrive whatever their interests, and we also provide a wealth of enrichment opportunities beyond the curriculum. Ours is a school where students are celebrated and supported as individuals, have the very best experiences, and achieve exceptional results. Each year, our GCSE and A-Level results place us amongst the best comprehensive schools in Surrey and nationally.

We are proud to ‘Bring out the Best’ in young people of all abilities and aptitudes and so increase their life chances for their future success and fulfilment.

Commitment to safeguarding
