SENCO PPA Teacher job summary

Upton St James C of E Primary School, Torquay

SENCo / PPA Teacher

PT 0.6 Permanent position

Closing date: 3rd March 2025

Interview date: 11th March 2025

Main Pay Scale (or UPS for exceptional candidate)

Start Date: September 2025

Are you a practicing or aspiring SENCO? Then we have a position that will appeal to you: SENCo and PPA teacher.

Upton St James has a high number of SEN children but is driven to support inclusion. The latest OFSTED report stated that ‘The school has worked hard to encourage pupils to come to school regularly and to provide the pastoral support they need to be able to learn. This has resulted in increased attendance. The school has established effective approaches to the management of pupils’ behaviour. Consequently, pupils’ behaviour both in lessons and around the school is strong.’

Are you a passionate and inclusive Teacher with experience of teaching in most year groups? Do believe in creating a stimulating, enabling, learning environment? Are you able to demonstrate your aspirations as a SENCo in your classroom practice?

Upton St James is an ambitious school with a supportive and strong leadership team and wonderful children. If you are passionate about inclusion and providing a strong relational environment, we want to hear from you!

Upton St James, is a wonderful school in the Upton area of Torquay. Upton St James is based in a Victorian school building but hold modern, nurturing values and pride ourselves on our strong community links.

Our Christian Ethos helps to create a warm, calm atmosphere, whilst priding ourselves on our high achievements. The Academy is part of the St Christopher’s Trust - a family of 21 Church and Community Schools spanning three local authorities and providing a rich network of collaboration. The Trust will build a package of exceptional continuous professional development and support around the appointed SENCo.

This is an exciting role that will help shape the future development of the school. In joining Upton, you will be part of a friendly and welcoming staff team and a supportive community. As a Church of England school, you will be happy to support the Christian ethos through our school values.

When completing an application please ensure you address all aspects of the person specification and list any additional subject strengths.

If you would like to arrange a tour of the school, please contact the school directly on 01803 328286

Your completed application form should be submitted by the 3rd of March 9.00am.  Interviews will be held on 11th March 2025.
