SENCO job summary
We are seeking to appoint an experienced and qualified SENCO who, with the support of the SLT and the SEN department will take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the SEN policy, SEN information report and provision made by the school for pupils with learning difficulties or disabilities. They will also work closely with staff, parents/carers and other agencies. The SENCO also provides professional guidance to staff in order to help ensure high quality teaching and the effective use of resourcesto secure an inclusive education. The successful candidate will have a teaching load but the subject and number of lessons are to be agreed at the interview.
Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematical School is a selective boys grammar school with a coeducational sixth form. It is a seven form of entry school with over 1400 pupils. We currently have 103 pupils on the SEN register of which 4 have an EHCP. We have a variety of needs including Dyslexia, SpLD and SEMH, however a high percentage of our SEN pupils have ASD. We also closely support a number of pupils with hearing and visual impairments. Our school site is adapted to fully support physically disabled pupils. Whilst we have relatively low numbers of SEN pupils compared to some schools we take their care and provision extremely seriously. We have a dedicated SEN room with a team of LSAs and two deputy SENCOs, one of whom has the SENCO accreditation, the other is currently studying for it.
