Job description

The SENCO will work with senior leaders to take responsibility for the day- to-day operation of provision for pupils with SEN. The SENCO will ensure high quality teaching and effective use of resources are provided for all pupils.
The job description is set out under four key areas of responsibility:
a. Strategic direction and development of SEN and CLA provision on site
b. Teaching and learning
c. Leading and managing staff
d. Efficient and effective deployment of staff and resources
e. Safeguarding

Essential educational requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status or other equivalent educational qualification (essential)

• National Award for SEN Qualification (desirable)

• Wide range of training / professional development relating to SEN and CLA pupils (desirable)

Essential qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status or other equivalent educational qualification (essential)

• National Award for SEN Qualification (desirable)

• Wide range of training / professional development relating to SEN and CLA pupils (desirable)

Essential skills and experience

• Experience of planning and delivering GCSE Maths and other Maths accreditation.
• Experience of teaching vulnerable pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties.
• Experience of working effectively within a multi-disciplinary assessment and/or support context for vulnerable young people.
• Has a clear understanding of the code of practice for SEN and guidance / legislating relating to CLA pupils
• Has a clear understanding of process and procedures relating applying for and implementing EHCPs
