SEND Learning Support Assistant job summary

We are seeking a passionate and caring Special Educational Needs Learning Support Assistant to join our growing team at Crown Street Primary School. In this rewarding role, you'll play a vital part in support the learning, personal development and inclusion of pupils in accordance with the ethos and policies of the school,  through providing in class support for pupils to enable them to make progress as directed by relevant teachers, delivering small group and one to one intervention programmes.

Due to Crown Street Primary's unique location, there is no parking on site. However, there are Pay & Display bays on the surrounding roads of Great Jackson Street, which is where Crown Street Primary School is located. Public transport is excellent, with Crown Street Primary School being a 7-minute walk from Deansgate Train Station and Deansgate-Castlefield Tram Stop. We also offer interest free loans for the purchase of annual travel tickets.

You will play a vital role in enhancing pupils progress whilst promoting their independence, self-esteem and social inclusion. A comprehensive offer of professional learning is in place and we ensure that all schools have designated work spaces for staff. A broad range of training in SEND is in place across all our schools focused on whole school SEND issues as well as specific training for SEND teams.

This position is contracted on a 30 hours per week Term Time only + 5 days (Monday- Friday, 8.45am - 3.15pm). This means you will mainly work when the school is open to pupils and will not need to work during the school holidays unless the contract requires you to do so. In total you will be in work for a minimum of 38 out of 52 weeks.

  • Provide a range of suitable learning and play activities that will enhance teaching and learning for Early Years pupils within the classroom.
  • To provide supervision of pupils during the lunchtime period both in the dining area and during playground activities. 

Key Skills and Experiences

  • NVQ Level 2 or above in childcare/play work or relevant qualification is essential
  • Experience of supporting pupils with specific Special Educational Needs is essential.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of play and how to create opportunities for a wide range of ages and interests.
