The post holder will be leading a large team of support staff and will be instrumental in developing SEND provision across the school in conjunction with the SENCO.

The successful candidate will need the flexibility and experience to work with a range of stakeholders, including students with barriers to learning of varying ages, in both one to one and small group situations, parents/carers and teaching staff across the school, contributing to the vision and values of the school. Furthermore, the successful candidate will have the skills to be able to communicate with professionals outside of the school, including Norfolk County Council, to be able to secure services or provide information as required.

The appointee should be able to work effectively as part of a team, follow the direction of the SENCO as well as be able to think for themselves and take the initiative when necessary.Candidates need to have a minimum of GCSE grade C for English and maths or equivalent. Experience of working with students with special educational needs and knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice would be of benefit, however training will be provided as necessary.

Jane Austen College is a school with a unique and exciting history: set up in 2014 as a flagship free school for the Inspiration Trust, with a specialism in English and Humanities, we have grown from two year groups through to a full 11-18 school of over 1000 students. We have a history of excellent results at both GCSE and A-Level, including STEM A-Levels as part of our unique collaboration with Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form. We were graded as a ‘good’ school in our last Ofsted inspection, and have continued to build on this through a focus on a broad curriculum, inclusive teaching approaches and our school values. It is true to say that our staff write a narrative of success for all our students, ensuring that they all have access to powerful knowledge and transformative extracurricular experiences regardless of background or disadvantage.

As part of the Inspiration Trust, we offer high-quality, personalised professional development, in addition to excellent career development opportunities. At Jane Austen College, you will have the opportunity to develop your expertise in SEND and also develop your career, in a supportive and stimulating environment.
