SEND Mathematics Teacher job summary

We’re looking for an Autism or SEND Specialist Maths Teacher to provide learners with the knowledge, skills and qualifications they need to live safely and independently within their community.

Part of the excitement of teaching at the academy is the broad range of individuals that you will teach. Our young people with autism may have sensory needs, speech and language difficulties, or social, emotional needs. A key aspect of working at Springfields is taking the time to get to know pupils and being able to create a safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment.

You will be joining a happy, hardworking and well-established team of over 20 teachers across the academy. You will also work closely with our multi-disciplinary therapy team.

We’re looking for someone with the patience, skills and creativity to present complex Maths concepts in a concrete and multi-sensory format. You must be confident to teach a range of qualifications, including Entry Level, Functional Skills and GCSE.

We are looking for the following qualities and experience:
• Someone with a passion for making complex Maths concepts accessible.
• A child-centred practitioner who responds to the individual needs of each child.
• A teacher with good knowledge and understanding of autism and social communication needs and appropriate strategies to support pupils with this need. E.g. TEACCH
• A creative and flexible approach to teaching that builds success through challenge, personalisation and innovation.
• The confidence and skills to build positive relationships that help to break down barriers, build self-esteem.
• A commitment to enabling all our pupils to overcome their challenges and achieve their potential both socially and academically.
• Job share opportunities and other flexible working initiatives available.
• Experience of primary, secondary or specialist provision beneficial.

The Springfields Academy is an academy over two sites in Calne and Salisbury. This includes a residential provision at our Calne academy. We aspire to build safe independent lives for autistic young people through support, understanding and enablement. Additionally, we are a ‘National Autistic Society Accredited Provision’ with over 90% of the current cohort having a diagnosis of Autism. All students have the potential to access a primary/secondary curriculum.

We provide a personalised curriculum journey that enables leaners with a diagnosis of autism to develop skills in areas of need and to overcome their barriers to learning.
