SEND Teaching Assistant job summary

This vacancy is for 30 hours per week - 8:30am-:3:30pm Monday - Friday supporting a child with visual impairment. Good knowledge of Microsoft word is essential as the person will be responsible for modifying work to make it accessible.

You will require patience, flexibility and be committed to helping children develop as independent and confident individuals. It would be desirable, but not essential, that you have experience in this type of role.

The Inclusive Multi Academy Trust which was established in 2016 with a vision to Inspire and nurture our children and their community to be the very best that they can be. The Trust consists of three schools; Beechfield, Cherry Tree and Laurance Haines. Our nurturing Trust ethos places a strong emphasis of the development and wellbeing of staff.

The successful candidates will have excellent communication skills and will be able to work closely with the class teacher, the SENCo, the SEN team and external advisors. You should be keen to learn, be able to work on your own initiative, and carry out advice consistently.

The successful candidates will have a GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths (C or above) and a high standard of written and spoken English.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding children and young people. All post holders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a Criminal Record Declaration Form prior to interview.

The Selection Criteria document is critical in the process and sets out the requirements which the person appointed should have in order to perform the duties of the post satisfactorily and against which applicants will be assessed. The selection criteria will be used throughout the recruitment process as an objective test of assessing candidates at shortlisting, test and interview stages. Shortlisting will be completed by assessing against the advertised person specification. Our interviews will always include relevant questions relating to child protection and/or safeguarding, and will usually involve a child centred task.
