What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking to appoint a SEND Teaching Assistant, who will work in partnership with classroom teachers to differentiate appropriate support for pupils with Special Educational Needs.
As a SEND TA, you will be required to work with children across all year groups, to meet the needs of the school.
Successful candidates will be highly motivated, positive and enthusiastic, love working with children and helping them to strive to achieve against their targets.
What we are looking for:
The successful candidate should
- Be able to develop positive relationships with young children
- Be able to stay calm and objective when presented with unusual or challenging behaviour
- Have experience of supporting children with moderate to severe SEND needs, including autism, ADHD, behavioural, social and emotional learning difficulties, speech and language needs
- Be enthusiastic and committed to working as part of a team
- Be a confident and clear communicator with parents
- Have GCSEs or equivalent level, including at least a Grade 4 (previously Grade C) in English and Maths
You must be willing to:
- support and uphold our Catholic ethos
- design and prepare resources to support language development and understanding as well as resources to support children with difficulties in cognition and learning
- implement strategies as recommended by professionals, e.g. Speech and Language Therapist, which might include, but are not limited to, teaching language through categorisation tasks and games, sequencing activities, pre and post tutoring of key vocabulary, and using a phonological and semantic approach when teaching new vocabulary.
- work in consultation with the class teacher to create an environment which is language rich, in terms of spoken language and the use of complementary communication systems such as visual symbols.
- lead interventions that target reading comprehension, word reading, and spelling.

This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent and spoken English is an essential requirement for this role.
