What skills and experience we're looking for

SENDCo

Permanent, Full Time Contract Start date: Easter, September, or by negotiation

Salary: L5-L9 (£55,206 - £60,940) when qualified

Do you believe that every single child is unique, exceptional, and deserves the very best start in life so that they can realise their potential? Do you believe that the role we play as educators is a privileged one and that we get to play a part in shaping this excellence? Do you believe that sometimes, to make this happen, we need to provide some additional support, but it is incredibly awarding to be able to do so? Then you have found the right school, the right colleagues, and the right role for you…

Bohunt School is looking to appoint a motivated and student focussed SENDCo. The successful candidate will either already have the National SENDCo Accreditation Award or equivalent, or be willing to undergo the necessary training, which we will fund and support.

The role is three-pronged: (i) Leading others, (ii) supporting students through identification and intervention, and (iii) exceptional collaboration and communication. You will ensure those students who need it have the right support in place, and will make sure that all adults involved in that child’s journey are fully informed and equipped to help them reach their potential.

In addition, making sure parents and other involved parties are fully informed and supported is critical to building a collaborative team around each young person, and you are the catalyst for this.

Our new SENDCo will have overall responsibility for provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities across Bohunt School; they will run a large team of committed learning support assistants and lead the direction and quality of teaching and learning in this key area. Teachers of any subject area are invited to apply. This role will be supported by the senior leadership team and will benefit from experienced cross trust leadership.

You will have the privilege of working in a large team, including a Deputy SENDCo and Access Arranger, over a dozen Learning Support Assistants, an EAL coordinator, numeracy and reading intervention leads, and you will be an integral part of the wider support team that includes ELSAs, TALAs, Social comms practitioners, and Councillors. And that’s not to mention over 100 amazing teachers, and dozens of staff within the wider body who all share your vision for students. Plus, an excellent and exclusive Support For Learning space.

Are you able to:

  • Inspire and innovate?
  • Nurture and develop (yourself as well as others)?
  • Commit to, and raise further, high achievement and motivation?
  • Optimise learning for all?

What the school offers its staff

Do you have:

  • An excellent sense of humour and ‘can do’ attitude?
  • Experience in identifying and supporting students?
  • Strong knowledge of current SEND legislation, including the Code of Practice?
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence?
  • First class communication skills?
  • The ability to work with parents, staff and external professionals?
  • QTS?

Then come and see us. Here’s just a few reasons why you’d be mad not to:

  • Our greatest strength is our people and we work hard to make sure you know that. Wellbeing is central to all we do – we have dedicated wellbeing days for staff, early finishes for you to take the time you need, and this year we successfully trialled a two-week autumn break in the busiest of times
  • Our students are exceptional – bright, inquisitive, respectful and diligent and they provide an environment where you can teach and realise your potential, as well as theirs
  • Not to mention the Leadership breakfast we do now and again, just to say thank you, the end of term events, Easter Eggs, advent calendars, or summer BBQ. Staff wellbeing is at our core and we want you to know that we do what we do because of you
  • Planning your lessons is crucial and it’s always easier when we collaborate – we’ve put in place hours of co-planning so that you can share best practice and resources and not have to sit at home doing it on your own.

In addition, we will offer:

  • A culture of bespoke professional development from our own Leadership Academy
  • The opportunity to make a difference
  • Staff iPads
  • Benefit schemes
  • The benefit of being part of a multi-academy trust offering collaboration, support of experienced colleagues across our schools and greater opportunities for career progression

Bohunt School in Liphook was judged in the top 20 of all Comprehensive Schools nationally in The Times Parent Power Good Schools table in 2024 and the school has received national coverage for a variety of innovative initiatives. Last Year our GCSE and A-Level results placed us in the top 10% of schools nationally, but it’s the care for our young people that makes us exceptional. The School is located in attractive, open country on the edge of Liphook (40 miles from London) with easy access to the A3 between Guildford and Portsmouth. Bohunt School opened a new Sixth Form in purpose built accommodation in 2017.

Visits to the school, or an informal conversation, are strongly encouraged.
