What skills and experience we're looking for

We have a rare and exciting opportunity to appoint a kind, compassionate and dedicated Sendco to our fantastic team. This is a non-teaching position for 2 days a week (days can be flexible). You will be a member of our Wider Leadership Team and work closely with the Pastoral Lead to provide every child with the chance to flourish and prosper within our school.

This role will require experience working with a wide range of special educational needs and preferably having already had some experience of the role of a SENDCO or working alongside an experienced SENDCO.

Responsible to: Deputy Headteacher

Purpose of the post:

In addition to the responsibilities under the teaching standards and those set out in teachers’ pay and conditions document you will also undertake the following duties and responsibilities.

Overall responsibility:

§ To lead, manage, develop and maintain high quality SEND provision which enables quality teaching, excellent learning outcomes and success for all pupils.

§ To model effective teaching, to coach and train colleagues and to teach, as appropriate, across the school.

§ To keep all aspects of paperwork including records, applications for EHCPs and policies up-to-date and actioned as appropriate

§ To liaise with parents, the safeguarding team and other professionals when required.

Responsibilities of the post:

Implement school’s SEND Policy and school offer

Monitor teaching and learning activities to meet the needs of all pupils in the school with SEND

Secure relevant services for pupils where necessary

Perform annual reviews

Support teachers to write Pupil Provision Plan Targets/

Create provision maps for all children on the SEND register.

Set targets for raising achievement among all pupils with SEND

Complete funding applications as appropriate

Having an overview of vulnerable groups and how strategies can support further development

Promoting inclusion

Leading, developing and enhancing the teaching practice of others

Identify and adopt the most effective teaching approaches for pupils with SEND

Identify and teach skills that will develop pupils’ ability to work independently

Develop understanding of learning needs and the importance of raising achievement among pupils

Support staff with planning for and supporting children within the class

Accountability for leading, managing and developing a subject or Curriculum area or pupil development across the curriculum

Manage and co-ordinate the teaching of SEND within the school

Disseminate good practice in SEND across the school

Set up systems for identifying, assessing and reviewing SEND

Update the headteacher and governing body on the effectiveness of provision for pupils with SEND

Attend consultation evenings and keep parents informed about their child’s progress

Collect and interpret assessment data

Establish, maintain and review school’s SEND policy

Management responsibility

Support all staff to recognise and fulfil their statutory responsibilities to pupils with SEND

Undertake and co-ordinate training for support and teaching staff to learn about SEND

Resources/Administration

Identify resources needed and advise the head teacher of priorities for expenditure

Other

Liaise with other schools to ensure continuity of support and learning when transferring pupils with SEND

Develop links with governors, other LAs and neighbouring schools
