What skills and experience we're looking for

Salary: MPR/UPR plus SEN 1 Allowance

We are seeking to appoint an experienced and qualified SENCO who will join our Senior Leadership Team and be responsible for continuing the development of our strong SEND provision across the school.

About the role:

As SENCO you will take responsibility for the day-to-day day operation of the SEND policy, SEND information report and provision made by the school for pupils with learning difficulties or disabilities. You will also provide professional guidance in the area of SEND across the academy. You will be part of our wider leadership team communicating with subject leads and teaching staff to meet the needs of our SEND pupils & ensure they are able to make rapid progress in line with the academy’s expectations.

A flexible approach with a can-do ethos is necessary, as is drive, grit and boundless enthusiasm, as nearly everyday we experience something new for the first time. It is essential that our SENCO has a positive outlook, is supportive of others and openly shares best practice, modelling this constantly to the staff. Our SENCO will need to embrace a forward thinking approach to raising standards in teaching for SEND, implementing a high quality intervention programme and working with the Trust and the Local Authority to ensure we are doing the absolute best for our most vulnerable students at all times.

A small amount of teaching will be required to cover PPA.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • The National Award for SEN Co-ordination
  • Experience of working with children with Special Needs
  • Thorough knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
  • The ability to lead staff in developing their knowledge and expertise in working with SEND children
  • Skilful in working with pupils with a range of different abilities and needs – SEND, LAC, Pupil Premium, EAL, Mental Health
  • The ability to work effectively with the Principal and SLT to achieve excellence
  • The ability to support and review the work of teaching assistants working with SEND children.
  • Good communication skills and an ability to work within a team
  • Good management and organisational skills and experience of leading/managing other staff.
  • The necessary communication skills enabling liaison with a variety of external agencies
