SENDCO - SECONDARY
JOB TITLE: SENDCo (Secondary)
BASED AT: Castle Newnham (Predominantly based on the North Site)
SALARY: MPS/UPS + TLR2C + SEND allowance
RESPONSIBLE TO: Headteacher - Secondary
It is our aim to grow the BEST in everyone, and everything we do is driven by our values. Since forming in 2016, we have grown significantly into one of the largest trusts in the county. We now educate 8,000 children across the area, from nursery age to advanced level study, and have over 1,000 members of staff. The Bedfordshire Schools Trust (BEST) is a multi-academy trust providing exceptional education across our community of 11 schools and five nurseries. The formative years of BEST have been a real success story – and we are looking forward to an exciting future, too.
We are seeking a teacher for an exciting role within our school which is suitable for a new SENDCo or an experienced SENDCo who may wish to develop their knowledge and experience by working in an all-through school.
The successful candidate will have substantial experience of teaching pupils with SEND in a mainstream school, good knowledge of best practice in SEND provision in the secondary phase and preferably experience of co-ordinating provision for pupils with SEND. They will have the willingness and flexibility to work as part of a wider team and commitment and resilience to develop in the role with support and training. The role of SENDCo (secondary) is to work closely with the Headteacher - Secondary and the SLT to ensure Castle Newnham is inclusive in its day-to-day practice. The successful applicant will also work closely with other key SEND staff and with SEND colleagues from BEST.
You will play a key role in leading the development of aligned practice in supporting and removing barriers to learning and promoting inclusion. The role will involve some teaching, predominantly of groups of pupils with SEND, and will also involve line managing members of the TA team and the leader of our Ark provision (onsite bespoke provision for pupils with MLD). We are seeking a colleague with ambition for each child and with the skills and experience to ensure strong working relationships with members of the SEND team, parents, teachers and support staff. Support, mentoring and training will be provided.
As well as a supportive team and strong professional development, Castle Newnham offers:
well-behaved, happy, confident and enthusiastic pupils who are keen to learn;
a school highly valued and supported by parents and the community;
a nurturing, enthusiastic and committed staff, who can rise to a challenge;
great opportunities to make your mark and to be part of something exciting and unique
Applicants must be willing to undertake a DBS clearance and the Academy must receive two satisfactory references before the successful candidate can commence employment.
