Discover what we can offer you

Would you like to work nine days but be paid for ten? What really sets The Highcrest Academy apart is our staff: their passion drives our progress and transforms the way we think and work and in return, we are committed to their well-being and mental health. We understand the pressures that working in education can place on individuals and are always looking for ways to improve working conditions and offer our staff incentives that are not always available in education.

From September 2024, we will be implementing a 9-day working fortnight for all staff. The premise is simple, you will work nine days but be paid for ten, using the tenth day to ‘reset’, and thus giving you the opportunity to manage your work-life balance more effectively. You will also enjoy a Wellness Day to relax and unwind every year in addition to school holidays.

Furthermore, we offer significant investment in your professional development and the possibility of onsite accommodation if you need to relocate. You can also expect facilities that are second to none, including an excellent canteen, gym and coffee shop, but above all, you will relish the satisfaction of transforming futures and helping our students overcome obstacles to experience life to the full.

Take your career to the next level

As the only all ability academy in Buckinghamshire, we do whatever it takes to tackle disadvantage and provide an outstanding education to everyone. Our innovative curriculum is as diverse as our student community and is purpose-designed to release the potential of academic high-flyers and those with SEN alike. You can join us as you take your career to the next level.

Explore the opportunity

You will join our highly regarded Director of SEN (Lead SENDCo) at a time where dynamic strategic developments are taking place to meet growing Special Educational Needs. This new role offers an exciting opportunity for a trained SENDCo (or qualified teacher working towards a SENDCo qualification) to take on a pivotal position within a busy department which already has an SEN Administrator.

Experience of SEN and a drive to achieve the highest quality of provision is essential to align with our ethos which will lead to the best possible outcomes. The SEN Department sits within the wider Inclusion and Well-being Team which strives to deliver exceptional pastoral support for our students. We are an Inclusion Quality Mark Flagship School.

You will be an outstanding teacher and will deliver 16 lessons per week to KS3 and in addition will support the Director of SEN by dealing with:

  • Transition management
  • Management of Exams Access Arrangements (and will therefore need up to date awareness of JCQ regulations and Form 8 etc)
  • Co-ordination and recording the delivery of Interventions
  • Line management of some members of the SEN Department
  • Preparation and attendance at Annual Reviews along with associated actions and record keeping
  • Attendance at meetings with external agencies and/or parents including Network Meetings
  • Delivery of CPD for staff
  • Day to day running of the department as required

You will have a professional approach to all stakeholders, a professional curiosity and a safeguarding mindset. You will be able to ‘think on your feet’ to problem solve whilst remaining flexible and organised. Your clear communication style and ‘can do’, positive outlook will ensure you are an excellent role model and mentor to students and staff.

"The school has a warm and welcoming atmosphere" and "Pupils at The Highcrest Academy happily live up to the school's motto of 'aspire and achieve'." Ofsted 2020

All who work at the academy reinforce our six virtues linked to our motto (Ambition, Sensitivity, Purpose, Integrity, Resilience and Eloquence), helping us instil a culture of excellence that runs throughout every strand of our Academy.

Situated in the leafy Chilterns and within easy reach of Central London, Highcrest is culturally and academically diverse and is the only academy in Buckinghamshire that caters for students of ‘all abilities’. Some of our students need all your support, whilst others need to be challenged and stretched. Our inclusive and successful House system, a wide range of clubs, visits and trips helps to bring our whole school community together. There are approximately 1,000 students on roll, including the Sixth Form. Recent additions to our site include a gym and restaurant/coffee shop for both staff and students, as well as a purpose-built Sixth Form Centre.

A thriving and friendly academy in the heart of the community, where your well-being is paramount. We offer staff recognition schemes, free gym and staff sports teams, plus a paid Well-being Day for all staff. There is also the possibility of shared staff living accommodation and on-site parking.
