What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint a Site Assistant to assist with the general upkeep and operations of the school buildings and grounds across our campus. The successful applicant will need to be practical, hardworking, reliable and trustworthy with a positive can-do attitude. They will undertake a wide range of duties which include; carrying out various minor repairs to the buildings and grounds, preparing the schools for events, responding to a varied workload from unblocking sinks to painting and decorating and ensuring the grounds and buildings are clean and hazard free.

15 hours per week x 39 weeks per year, term time plus INSET days

Week 1 – 7:00am – 10:00am Monday to Friday

Week 2 – 4:00pm – 7:00pm Monday to Friday


Main duties and responsibilities

  • Ensuring that the learning and working environment and services across the schools are maintained to a high standard.
  • To ensure the cleanliness of all areas of the premises ensuring that external areas are clean, tidy and maintained to a high standard free of litter, weeds, leaves etc.
  • To carry out general maintenance of garden areas.
  • Assist with the preparation of each school for events, assemblies, parent evenings, exams etc ensuring that furniture and equipment are set out and removed as required.
  • Follow a programme of planned maintenance to ensure that safety and essential equipment is maintained and fit for purpose.
  • Play a key role in ensuring that all services and utilities are functional across the schools.
  • Providing a high standard of porter service and delivering items and equipment to designated departments.
  • Ensure that all work is undertaken in accordance with Health and Safety legislation, approved codes of practice and GLT Health and Safety Policy and individual school procedures.
  • Make areas safe after adverse weather conditions.
  • To carry out building and decoration programmes as agreed with the Management Team.
  • To assist in ensuring that all Health and Safety regulations are complied with.
  • To attend emergency call outs as necessary
  • Be proactive in contributing to the general upkeep of the buildings
  • To attend GLT or school events as required.
  • To ensure compliance with GDPR.
  • To assist in such duties and activities relating to any of the above areas appropriate to grade as the Headteachers and Governors shall from time to time reasonably require.
  • To assist in ensuring the adequate security of buildings at all times.
