Caretaker job summary

This is a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Caretaker who can work with us to make a significant contribution towards taking Bedmond Academy to the next stage of its development. The role is for 18.5 hours per week, working morning, 52 weeks per year. There is also a full time opportunity working an additional 18.5 hours in the afternoon to support The Grove Academy, one of our other schools within the Trust.

We received a ‘GOOD’ grading from Ofsted at our last inspection in January 2022. This was our first inspection since we converted to an Academy and the journey the school has been on since conversion to an Academy was described as ‘outstanding’ by the lead inspector.  


The Role:

Responsible for the security of the premises and related Health and Safety, maintenance and cleaning within the School and providing an appropriate environment for students to work and learn.

Accountability

The post holder reports to the Chief Operations Officer, with day to day liaison with the Principal and School Business Manager.  

Key responsibilities

  *  Be responsible for ensuring the security of school buildings, site and resources.

  *  Act as a designated key holder, providing out of hours and emergency access to the school site.

  *  Attend to minor repairs around the site, including painting.

  *  Arrange for general maintenance within specialist areas such as heating, lighting and plumbing to ensure safe and effective operation.

  *  Responsible for regular health and safety checks of buildings, grounds, fixtures and fittings, (including compliance with fire safety regulations) and equipment.

  *  Responsible for regular maintenance checks and follow-up actions.

  *  Manage the Schools maintenance requirements in liaison with the Central Premises Team to support a regular and cost effective maintenance programme.

  *  Responsible for contractors whilst on site and ensure work is completed to the required standard, coordinating projects where appropriate.

  *  Purchase premises related equipment and supplies within agreed budget.

  *  Responsible for the regular checking and operation of systems such as heating, cooling, lighting and security (including CCTV and alarms).

  *  Assist other premises staff at other sites within the Trust as directed by the COO.

  *  Supervise other premises staff.

  *  Undertake risk assessments, ensure compliance within the school with all health and safety responsibilities for example COSHH, ladder, asbestos, legionella and asset register.

  *  Meet regularly with the COO and Premises and Compliance Officer to discuss site works required and arrangements for works to be carried out.

  * Responsibility for the coordination of lettings and seeking opportunities to maximise bookings.

  *  Monitoring utility usage and tacking action to reduce expenditure where appropriate. Report usage to the Premises and Compliance Officer.

  *  Act as H&S Officer and complete termly H&S checklist inspections.
