Site Welfare and Cleaning Officer job summary
Role: Site Welfare and Cleaning Officer
Salary: £15,983 – 19,481 (FTE £23,656 – £24,027)
Grade: Grade 3
Benefits: Generous pension allowance, free parking
Hours per Week: 25-30 hours , working times to be confirmed
Contract: Permanent, Term time only including 5 INSET days (39 weeks per year) or 52 weeks per year
Reporting to: Assistant Business Manager
The Organisation
Matthew Arnold is a thriving community school on the outskirts of Oxford looking to appoint a School Counsellor. Matthew Arnold is an oversubscribed inclusive 11-18 school of over 1,300 pupils that serves a mix of urban and rural communities across the west side of Oxford. The school prides itself on being a high achieving school with increasing rates of progress for our disadvantaged students. This has been achieved by focusing on improving outcomes for every student and continuing staff development.
The Role
You will support the school’s estate through cleaning, portering. Events set up and compliance with health and safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collect and assemble waste, clean toilets/staff areas, and refill consumables
- Remove graffiti, litter-pick, and clean external pathways, including gritting in winter
- Perform maintenance duties, site inspections, and address repair needs
- Organise equipment/supplies and set up school events
- Maintain cleanliness, audit classrooms, and assist with risk assessments
- Promote health & safety for staff, students, and visitors
- Provide portering support (e.g., mail delivery, furniture moves)
- Respond to maintenance tickets and comply with all policies and procedures
Requirements
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or in a team.
- Knowledge of health & safety, COSHH, and hygiene procedures.
- Relevant cleaning experience (school or professional setting).
- First Aid trained (or willingness to train).
- Clean driving license.
- Customer-focused, professional demeanour.
