Sociology Teacher job summary

The Role
You are an excellent and enthusiastic specialist Sociology teacher with strong subject knowledge and the ability to teach both the GCSE and A Level. You will have the ability to motivate students playing a role in continuing to develop an engaging and inspiring curriculum. You will be keen to promote the Humanities department across the school and improve upon the opportunities available to our students through extra curricular activities.

Our Humanities Department prides itself on its commitment to ensuring pupils achieve their full potential and push themselves beyond their comfort zones, ensuring consistently good GCSE and A Level results. We strive to make lessons enjoyable yet challenging for students to encourage a love of learning and confidence in their own understanding.

We are a large, friendly department with experienced teachers, all with a commitment to continuous school improvement, incorporating History/Geography/Religious Studies/Psychology and Sociology at GCSE and A Level, as well as Politics and Law at A Level only. With GCSE and A Level courses in Humanities heavily subscribed and us having successfully incorporated GCSE Psychology and Sociology within KS4, joining us at this time of growth could offer some exciting opportunities.

About Us

A thriving and friendly academy in the heart of the community, with staff recognition schemes, free gym and staff sports teams, to counter the free breakfast, “Friday Treats” and on-site coffee shop! We also offer the possibility of shared staff living accommodation and on-site parking.

“Staff feel very well supported by senior leaders. According to staff, they feel valued because senior leaders are approachable..” Ofsted 2020

Highcrest offers both an excellent induction and support programme for ECTs and an innovative and extensive CPD package for ECTs and more experienced teachers. In addition, as an ECT, you will have weekly CPD meetings with experienced members of staff, weekly time-tabled and protected Mentor Meetings, and subject knowledge time with departments.

“The school has a warm and welcoming atmosphere” and “Pupils at The Highcrest Academy happily live up to the school’s motto of ‘aspire and achieve’.” Ofsted 2020

Situated in the leafy Chilterns and within easy reach of Central London, Highcrest is culturally and academically diverse and is the only academy in Buckinghamshire that caters for students of ‘all abilities’. Some of our students need all your support, whilst others need to be challenged and stretched. Our inclusive and successful House system, a wide range of clubs, visits and trips helps to bring our whole school community together.

There are approximately 1,000 students on roll, including the Sixth Form. Recent additions to our site include a gym and restaurant/coffee shop for both staff and students, as well as a purpose-built Sixth Form Centre.
