Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)? Do you have the skills to lead and inspire a team to provide an inclusive learning environment? If so, we would love to hear from you! We are seeking a new or experienced, dedicated Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping the provision for pupils with additional needs at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, part of the Dustan Catholic Educational Trust.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Management - Develop and implement the school's SEND policy and procedures. Lead on the identification and assessment of pupils with SEND. Monitor the effectiveness of interventions and support strategies. Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to ensure inclusive education for all pupils.
Support for Pupils - Oversee and coordinate support for pupils with SEND to ensure they make progress. Develop and review Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Ensure early identification of SEND needs and appropriate interventions. Support pupils’ social, emotional, and mental health needs.
Collaboration with Staff and Parents - Provide guidance and training to teachers and support staff on SEND best practices. Work closely with class teachers to differentiate learning for pupils with additional needs. Liaise with parents and carers, ensuring they are involved in their child's education and progress.
External Partnerships & Compliance - Liaise with external agencies, including Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and Local Authorities. Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including the SEND Code of Practice. Maintain up-to-date records of SEND pupils and support audits/inspections.
Person Specification:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to complete).
Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
Experience working with children with SEND in a primary school setting.
