Special School Assistant job summary
A designated day special school for children aged 4 - 11 years with complex learning difficulties, the successful candidate will start in the Autumn term and will have had previous experience of working with children within a school setting and knowledge of proven teaching strategies such as PECS.
Excellent communications skills, enthusiasm, reliability, resilience, the ability to liaise with staff at all levels and be able to work effectively as part of a team are essential.
We are looking for an individual who:
- can support and motivate the children and encourage independent learning
- can contribute to monitoring and recording pupils’ progress
- can encourage and support good behaviour acting as a positive role model
- is able to deal with challenging behaviour and provide welfare support in accordance with school policies
We have a number of vacant roles, full-time and part-time, permanent and Fixed term.

Springwell is a designated day special school for pupils with complex learning difficulties aged from 4 – 11 years. Many pupils have associated disabilities including speech and language disorders, autism and challenging behaviour.
We are located on the edge of the city in Thornhill, Southampton with an additional 4 off site provisions located at mainstream schools across the city.
