Specialist Advisory Teacher job summary

The role of Specialist Advisory Teacher will be a brand-new post within RLT suitable for an experienced practitioner. You will need to take the lead in developing eight-week interventions for referred children and young people in Key Stages 2 and 3. There will be twelve 90-minute 1:1 lessons per week.

You will be part of the River Learning Trust Inclusion Team supporting our Oxfordshire system work, by working with pupils referred from any school in Oxfordshire (similar to how our Teaching School Hub, SCITT and Meadowbrook College work across the wider education system). The trust is open to a number of working patterns from 0.5FTE to full-time. In the first instance this role is being offered on a temporary basis for two years. Due to the nature of the role a willingness to travel and ownership of your own car is required, with mileage paid for as part of the role - details of travel arrangements will be discussed at interview with short-listed candidates.

We are looking for an energetic, well-organised and flexible Specialist Advisory Teacher who:

  • Has experience of teaching children and young people with a range of SEND, especially communication and interaction and/or social, emotional and mental health needs
  • Is ready to make a significant positive impact on children and young people in the local area
  • Is proactive and solution focussed
  • Is committed to continuous improvement
  • Will be committed to our vision, our values and ethos, and have the interpersonal skills and ability to work with staff and pupils across Oxfordshire schools to achieve all they can

In return we can offer:

  • A supportive Trust Central Team committed to the RLT staff charter
  • A culture of mutual trust and respect amongst all staff
  • Continuous professional development that is prioritised for all
  • Expertise to support and challenge via the Trust Inclusion Team and external providers
  • A 1:1 ratio for pupils
  • Dedicated leadership time

We welcome phone calls to the Director of Inclusion, Katherine Walsh, from potential applicants. Please email kwalsh@riverlearningtrust.org to arrange a call.

OUR VISION is for our schools and SCITT to improve rapidly, continuously and sustainably: to be better faster together.

OUR ‘HOW?’ is through the highest support and challenge for our schools and each other, underpinned by our principles.

Our employees benefit from a wide variety of support including extensive continuing professional learning and development opportunities, wellbeing and staff networks and access to Defined Benefit Pension Schemes (TPS and LGPS) for all staff.
