What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Specialist SEN Support Practitioner to join our inclusive and progressive team. This is a key role within the school, supporting children with a range of complex and multiple needs including autism, SEMH, sensory processing and communication difficulties.

The successful candidate will work across the school to plan and deliver individualised support and structured interventions, adapting activities and resources to meet the unique needs of each pupil. You will be expected to provide high-quality specialist support, including implementing therapy programmes and personalised strategies, while also contributing to the review and development of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

This role also involves modelling effective practice for staff, offering guidance and coaching to support inclusive classroom strategies, and liaising closely with external professionals and families. A key part of your work will be to help embed inclusive practices across the whole school, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive.

We are looking for someone who is proactive, calm and emotionally intelligent, with a genuine passion for inclusion and a strong commitment to supporting children with complex needs. The ideal candidate will have experience working with pupils with SEND, either in a mainstream or specialist setting, and will demonstrate a confident and informed approach to personalised support.

Applicants should hold relevant qualifications in SEND or Education Studies and have a minimum of one year’s experience in a similar role. A good understanding of autism, SEMH and sensory needs is essential, and confidence using approaches such as PECS, Makaton, Attention Autism or Zones of Regulation would be highly advantageous.

You should be confident in working closely with families, contributing to EHCP planning and reviews, and supporting the development of other staff through modelling and coaching. Above all, you must be passionate about making a difference to the lives of children and families, and committed to the inclusive values that define our school.

Longmoor is a dynamic and ambitious school, where our aspirations, strong curriculum and values-driven family ethos enable our children to flourish both personally and academically.

We have a diverse and vibrant community that embraces difference by celebrating the lessons we can learn from each other. Our approach to learning is progressive and professional; we believe in providing our children with an education that both stimulates and challenges in equal measure.

Everything we do is underpinned by our DRIVE values, which every member of the Longmoor Family is expected to live and breathe. We teach our children to act with determination, respect, integrity, valour and excellence at all times, and have the same high expectations of our teachers, support staff, parents and governors.

We believe that our values are integral to providing the young people in our care with the support they need to excel. They provide the framework to offer a broad curriculum that allows our children to seize the opportunities that suit them.

Fundamental to achieving this is having dedicated, expert and happy staff. We work hard to ensure that we recruit the right people, those who are passionate and committed to embracing Longmoor’s unique approach to learning.
