Job summary

We have a fantastic opportunity for a talented teacher to join The Spires College. The post is initially to cover the maternity leave of the class teacher of our nurture class. However this area of the college continues to grow, and additional opportunities may well arise. The College ensures all staff have a personalised CPD programme to support their career development.

You will:

be, or have the potential to become, an exceptional and innovative classroom practitioner;
be committed to working in a close, collaborative team environment within the SEND Department;
be able to use excellent subject knowledge and a strong pedagogical understanding to successfully teach English and Mathematics to young people that find learning difficult;
be enthusiastic about giving young people the best possible start in life.
The successful candidate will have a passion for teaching. The ability to teach both English and Mathematics to at least Year 6 level is required. We would welcome applications from teachers from a primary background, or those who are experienced SEND teachers.

Essential educational requirements

A good honours degree.
A teaching qualification.
Qualification in Special Educational Needs teaching is desirable.
An up to date knowledge of the emerging issues in education and record of appropriate CPD.

Essential skills and experience

You are a good practitioner in the classroom and keen to continue learning.
You are capable of planning and delivering innovative lessons and Schemes of Learning.
You have the ability to inspire high levels of student performance.
You can work under pressure and prioritise according to need, have good communication skills, can use data effectively, have good behaviour management skills and the ability to think creatively to solve problems, pioneering new approaches as well as understanding which prior methods have been effective.
You have a sense of humour and good interpersonal skills, high levels of energy and enthusiasm, are ambitious and keen to prove yourself and are a committed, highly competent, reflective and resilient individual.
You have experience of teaching English and Maths at Key Stage 2 or within SEN Education.
You have experience of using data to inform actions and of the role and responsibilities of a form tutor.
