Specialist Teaching Assistant job summary

Are you looking for a school where:

  • Children appreciate the care and nurture that talented staff provide.
  • The ethos, ‘Together we will be successful’ is shared by all.
  • There is great challenge particularly to consistently raise attainment and narrow gaps.
  • Community involvement is at the heart of the school’s mission.

John Clifford School is launching a new Alternative Provision Unit for a small cohort of children from our school and local partner schools.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed teaching assistant with experience of working with young people with specific needs in either a specialist or mainstream setting. This will be a new provision that seeks to lead on high quality teaching across the core areas as well as providing a focus on nurture, social and emotional skills and therapeutic supports.

We can offer you:

  • The chance to work with diverse groups of learners.
  • A wide variety of induction, mentoring and support.
  • Bespoke and individual coaching to meet your needs.
  • A vibrant staff and governor team who work hard but also have fun.
  • A close supportive partnership with our local community.

We are looking for a teacher who can demonstrate:

  • The ability to work in a small team to make a positive contribution to the lives of children who find mainstream education a challenge.
  • The desire to forge and build trusting relationships with children, parents and carers, professional colleagues and outside agents.
  • A knowledge of a broad curriculum that will support bespoke packages offered to children.
  • The motivation and desire to learn and improve both independently and from others.
  • A commitment to make a difference to diverse learners from across our schools.
  • Consistent high-quality learning opportunities.

The APU is scheduled to open in January 2023, however the successful applicant will be appointed to John Clifford School as soon as possible in order to immerse themselves fully within the school, its ethos and vision and to work alongside staff and children in the development of this exciting project. The appointee will work as part of a team to develop policy and create a curriculum in readiness for the opening of the APU. They will attend local meetings and meet with professionals in support of admission and providing bespoke needs.

This position is ideal for a qualified and experienced teaching assistant, looking for a unique opportunity to gain experience in supporting individual needs, working with professional agents and gaining a developing insight into management and leadership.
