Specialist Teaching Assistant job summary

We are delighted to be advertising for the position of Specialist Teaching Assistant – with a focus on Literacy, at our outstanding 11-16 academy in West Yorkshire.

Outwood Academy Freeston, seeks applications from outstanding applicants with integrity, imagination and energy for this rewarding role. The Academy places students at the centre of everything it does. The focus is on creating a culture of success, with positive environments for learning to increase student attainment, achievement and social and emotional development.
The successful candidate will work as part of an inclusion team primarily to support literacy, but they will also support students in all necessary interventions. A key focus will be to increase student’s ability to access all areas of the curriculum. Examples of the work the successful candidate will be expected to deliver are to:

• Take responsibility for a caseload of students inside and outside of the classroom during structured or unstructured time.
• Assess the needs of students and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support students’ educational progress and attainment.
• Deliver intervention programs to individuals and small groups, preparing relevant and appropriate learning experiences in conjunction with the department staff.
• Track and monitor student life skill targets and/or EHCP outcomes, discussing progress with parents and agreeing new targets/EHCP outcomes at Interim Reviews.

Driving may be required within this role for home visits.
