What skills and experience we're looking for
Ecclesfield Primary School is looking for a Speech and Language Teaching Assistant. Knowledge and experience of speech and language development and intervention is desired but not essential as training will be provided. Previous experience of working within a school or with children in another capacity is essential. This position would suit someone who has a speech and language background/degree who is considering teaching or speech & language therapy as a career.
The role of S&L TA involves the following:
- Identifying children’s S&L needs through collaborative working with school staff, support services and families.
- Assessing children’s S&L needs and sharing this with relevant staff
- Implementing the relevant interventions to progress children’s development
- Working alongside the SENDCo to identify need, share knowledge and implement a timetable of support
- Some training of relevant staff in S&L interventions to disseminate good practice
- Working alongside Speech and Language Therapists to facilitate assessments and interventions.
- Undertaking your own training/research to further your skills and knowledge to benefit the progress of the pupils you support.
- Working with parents/carers to enable them to support their child at home
- Making resources as needed in order to implement speech and language interventions effectively.
- Developing and promoting inclusive practices across the school.
