Speech & Language Therapy Assistant job summary
The East Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre (SILC) is a 2-19 generic special school with 442 learners on roll. All our learners have special learning needs and some have physical/ medical difficulties. The East SILC is a complex organisation which operates on a variety of sites to provide a range of outreach services across the city, including partnerships with primary and secondary providers, the city-wide Physical Difficulties and Medical Service including a moving and handling service, as well as the Medical Needs Teaching Service for Leeds.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to support the expansion of our Speech and Language Therapy team at the East SILC. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and interested individual as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant. The successful candidate will be asked to work at sites across the East SILC. This is a permanent post.
This post will combine clinical and administrative support roles. As a Speech and Language Therapy assistant you will:
- Work directly with individual learners or groups to deliver therapy programmes, under the direction of a Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT)
- Report on learners’ progress
- Keep accurate records of interventions carried out
- Support SaLTs in assessment of learners’ communication skills
- Provide administrative support to SaLTs
- Create communication resources for individual learners
- Contribute to the development of a Total Communication Environment across the East SILC
- You will receive regular supervision and, as part of the SaLT service, be eligible for specialist training.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will have a strong interest in supporting and promoting communication skills with Autistic learners, and/or those with Learning Disabilities. Experience working with individuals with Complex Needs and behaviours that challenge is desirable. Good IT and administrative skills, and the ability to work flexibly and collaboratively as part of a team are essential.

Appointments are made subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS formally CRB) and medical clearance from Leeds City Council’s Occupational Health Service.
