The Teaching of Physical Education


      Plan, prepare and implement consistently high-quality, well-structured PE lessons

      Plan effectively to meet the diversity of pupils’ needs and interests

       Plan and carry out interventions for pupils identified by the inclusion team.

       Activities may include sensory circuits, forest school and other provision linked to physical activity and inclusion.

      Ensure high expectations of all pupils in relation to learning and behaviour

      Monitor pupils’ learning in lessons using a range of assessment strategies and modify teaching accordingly

      Support and guide learners so that they can reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and know what they need to do next to move their learning on

      Maintain records of pupils learning in PE to support teacher assessment each term against key performance descriptors


Curriculum

       With the PE Subject Leader, review curriculum plans and update long-term plans and schemes of work as required

       Agree PE timetables with the Deputy Headteacher each term

       Work with the PE subject leader to coordinate after school clubs

Pupil Wellbeing and Personal Development

      Hold positive values and attitudes and adopt high standards of behaviour in your professional role

      Develop professional relationships with pupils, to aid them in achieving their potential both inside and outside of the classroom

      Support the whole school mental health and wellbeing strategy

      Consistently implement the school’s behaviour policy

      Communicate effectively with class teachers and other staff to ensure consistency of approach and provide feedback on pupils learning and behaviour

Wider Sports Provision

      Run sports clubs after school each day

      Run lunchtime Clubs each day

 

      Organise intra-school sports events

 

      Coordinate participation in inter-school festivals and competitions with other schools

 

      Run a programme of sports during lunchtimes each day

      Seek opportunities to widen school provision through partnerships with local schools and sports clubs

 

      Run events to engage families in sport and healthy life choices

Leadership

    Work with the leadership team to monitor and evaluate the impact of PE and school sport in raising whole school standards

      Work with the leadership team and PE Subject Leader to develop and implement a PE and School Sport strategy as part of the school development plan

      Analyse participation levels by key groups to ensure equality of opportunity in school sport

      Produce a sports newsletter once a term for publication to the school community 

      Liaise with other professionals and external organisations as required

School to community links:

 

      Establish and develop sustainable links with local sports clubs and other community providers

      Encourage and support young people to access local sports clubs and community provision 

      Make effective use of community providers to support and enhance school sport provision

Other Duties:

      Take part in in-service training, relevant performance management arrangements and other meetings as directed

      Attend appropriate professional development courses as identified in performance management reviews

      Make a significant contribution in actively promoting equality and diversity at school and further develop a culture of achievement and high expectation

      Audit and maintain PE resources

      To undertake any other duties as directed by the Headteacher.
