What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for a dedicated individual to lead The Study. The Study is a focused intervention designed to support children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. By working to remove the barriers which prevent them from learning effectively in a mainstream class, the Study increases our capacity to meet the diverse needs of our learners. At break and lunchtimes, The Study offers a safe space to students who find the hustle and bustle of a large secondary school overwhelming. Located in a suite of one classroom, one large group room, two small independent working rooms and a small group/individual intervention room, The Study is staffed by the Study Leader (this role), the Study Deputy and a rotation of four study dogs. This is a highly successful provision, praised by Ofsted and regarded as a model of good practice by colleagues across our MAT.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to forge strong relationships with both adults and children. They will be a good organiser and be able to meet deadlines. They will be committed to the principles of inclusive practice: that that no two children are the same and that diversity enriches the educational experience. An awareness of trauma informed practice is an advantage.
What the school offers its staff
The successful candidate will work with colleagues in school and from across USP to continue to shape and develop a provision which supports children to be successful learners and confident individuals. The Study leader’s duties include delivering interventions, tracking student progress, working with students and parents to plan support packages, supervising students during supervised study time and making appropriate information available to the head of school and executive headteacher. The Study Leader line manages the Study Deputy. A training and support package will be agreed in discussion with the successful candidate.
