Head of Science Faculty job summary
The Bishop Wand School is looking to appoint an inspirational Head of Faculty to lead teaching across Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Psychology departments.
The ideal candidate will possess the vision to develop and implement an exciting and innovative Science curriculum and promote a love of Science amongst our students.
This is an exciting time for the Science Faculty, we are going from strength to strength and have a team of high-quality practitioners that work well together and are keen to share ideas with each other and trainee teachers. Our team is innovative with a drive to introduce new and modern projects with enthusiasm. Our GCSE results in 2019 improved by 10% for the 2nd year running and at A level all 4 Sciences frequently have an ALPs score of between 1 and 3 placing us in the top 25% of schools nationally.
We strongly value enhancing the learning of our students though extracurricular activities and as a result student can attend Science club, enter competitions and go on trips to widen their Scientific understanding. We are looking for a Head of Faculty who has the interpersonal skills to lead a large group of teachers and technicians and is keen to help work with the senior team to ensure our students can ‘Realise their God-given potential’.
Our ideal candidate will:
• be an outstanding practitioner with an unwavering commitment to the highest standards for teaching and learning.
• have excellent leadership and management skills.
• have a proven track record of raising attainment in GCSE Science.
To share our ethos of ‘Realising God-given potential’ you must possess a clear vision for outstanding subject provision and have the ability and commitment to secure high standards of student achievement making learning relevant and developing employability skills in our future young professionals.
The middle leaders at Bishop Wand are central to the Schools continued improvement and for this reason we offer a very comprehensive professional development programme and support package for this key group of individuals. Also, all teachers are given additional time to plan and prepare exciting, differentiated lessons that meet the needs of each student.

The Bishop Wand Church of England School converted to an 11-18 Academy in August 2012. The School is situated in Sunbury on Thames, Surrey and close to the borders of the London Boroughs of Richmond and Hounslow. We are continually oversubscribed, with the majority of applicants coming from families with a religious affiliation.
