What skills and experience we're looking for

We currently have opportunities to join our dedicated team of Subject Support Mentors who work within either a subject team (Business, Engineering, English Mathematics, Science ) or our inclusion/SEND team.

The JCB Academy is committed to changing the lives of young people by developing them into the engineers and business leaders of the future. Working in your assigned team, you will support disadvantaged learners from Y9, Y10 and Y11 to make progress. You will also provide classroom support for learners with specific learning needs and Education Health Care Plans. In addition, you will act as mentor to a group of mentees across the three year groups. You will need to be able to understand learners’ barriers and the strategies which will ensure they are best supported to grow in confidence, make positive progress and achieve academic results which secure their next steps. Other duties will include lunchtime supervision (for which you will receive a duty meal), exam invigilation and supervising cover lessons for absent teaching staff.

What the school offers its staff

The JCB Academy develops engineers and business leaders from Y9 to Sixth Form and provides Intermediate (level 2) and Advanced (level 3) apprenticeship programmes. We also deliver Businessand Engineering T-levels which provide learners with additional choices after their GCSEs. Working with the likes of Bosch Rexroth, Harper Adams University, JCB, Rolls‑Royce and Toyota Motor Manufacturing, we ensure that the curriculum is embedded in real industrial practice and includes genuine industrial challenges. Our aim is to provide a world class experience to learners and staff.

We are situated close to Uttoxeter, a picturesque market town supporting a variety of independent shops, cafes and bars. The town is surrounded by characterful villages with an abundance of culture and attractions right on the doorstep. This great value location has quick links to major cities, high quality homes that allow younger people and families to get onto the property ladder and close access to the glorious Peak District.

We offer a benefits package which includes membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, Employee Assistance Programme (including financial guidance, legal enquiries, support for issues at home and at work), access to JCB’s dental scheme (monthly fee), free access to the academy’s gym, free on-site parking and Cyclescheme.

Commitment to safeguarding

The JCB Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
