Subject Tutor Business job summary
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-qualified graduate able to teach Business Studies within a consistently successful curriculum area. Candidates should be willing to teach A level Business.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Business Studies Department within an outstanding Sixth Form College. We are seeking a proactive individual to provide an excellent level of support to both staff and students in the College.
The Curriculum Area of Business
The department currently offers A level Business (AQA), level 3 LIBF (London Institute of Banking and Finance) Personal Finance courses and BTEC Level 3 (single and double award). There are currently over 900 students studying on courses across the department. We also have students taking A level Accounting.
Throughout their courses students are able to enrich their understanding of the subject matter and interact with companies and organisations of all scales. In the past year students have undertaken workshops at BMW, running charity events and had visiting speaker engagements to support their learning.
The Post of Business Tutor
We are looking for a teacher who displays the following characteristics:
A thoughtful and self-reflective approach to pedagogy;
A desire to be an outstanding classroom practitioner
A passion for the subject;
Excellent ICT skills that makes learning visible in the classroom
Excellent subject knowledge and a desire to build on this; and an
Enthusiasm for working with 16-19 year old students.
You should be capable of delivering the subject to a range of student abilities.
In addition we are looking for a candidate who recognises the critical importance of developing our students’ literacy and numeracy skills and will implement this as an integral part of their teaching.
Candidates will be part of a team where resources and ideas are freely shared for the greater good of the department. The successful applicant is expected to be flexible, not afraid to meet challenges, and innovative in their approach to curriculum delivery.

a mentor to help you through the first year (in particular);
support from your curriculum manager and director of faculty; and
an extensive programme for all new staff to help induct you into College life as well as to develop your approach to teaching

For graduates we will organise and fund a teaching qualification – usually a PGCE – a saving for most graduates of at least £9,000. We also offer ECT status through The Xavier Hub and Teach First.
