Subject Tutor Law (A-Level/BTEC) job summary

The Law Department consists of eight specialist teachers who teach both OCR A-Level and BTEC Law to over 500 students. The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic to work in a collaborative environment, as the department often creates and shares their resources. The team making up the Law department enjoy providing a fuller experience to their students through arranging events such as the National Bar Mock Trial, court trips, university law days and professional outside speakers. The department also recognises the importance of progression and provides students with details of various opportunities outside of the college such as apprenticeship competitions, volunteering for law-based charities, and working with the Citizens Advice Bureau, to enhance their future career applications. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate to work within an experienced and passionate team who are always keen to collaborate and provide support for each other.
We are looking for a teacher who displays the following characteristics:
Demonstrate a thoughtful and self-reflective approach to pedagogy;
Demonstrate excellence in their teaching practice & exhibit a desire to become an outstanding post - 16 classroom practitioner;
Enthusiastic about the subject;
Excellent ICLT skills that makes learning visible in the classroom;
Demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and a further desire to build on this;
Enthusiasm in working with 16-19 year old students;
Organised but flexible in their approach;
Excellent & resourceful team player;
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
You should be capable of delivering the subject to a range of student abilities.
In addition we are looking for a candidate who recognises the critical importance of developing our students’ literacy and numeracy skills and will implement this as an integral part of their teaching.
Candidates will be part of a team where resources and ideas are freely shared for the greater good of the department. The successful applicant is expected to be flexible, not afraid to meet challenges, and innovative in their approach to curriculum delivery.
As a new member of staff you will receive plenty of support from your colleagues both from the department and from the wider college community. This will include:
a mentor to help you through the first year (in particular);
support from your curriculum manager and director of faculty; and
an extensive programme for all new staff to help induct you into College life as well as to develop your approach to teaching
We regard our staff as our most important resource and will do our utmost to support you throughout your time at the College.
For graduates we will organise and fund a teaching qualification – usually a PGCE – a saving for most graduates of at least £9,000. In addition we offer Qualified Teacher Status (i.e. completion of the statutory induction period) through Hampshire Local Authority and in partnership with one of our local schools.
