This exciting programme is designed to recruit a passionate and dedicated trainee, equipping them with the skills, subject knowledge and confidence to become an outstanding secondary Maths teacher. You will develop expertise in teaching Maths across Key Stages 3 and 4, preparing students for success in their mathematical learning.

School Placements

Throughout the course, you will gain hands-on classroom experience in two contrasting secondary settings:

  • Placement 1: Beacon Academy, where you will teach Maths across Key Stages 3 and 4, developing your classroom confidence and subject expertise.

  • Placement 2: A mainstream secondary school, where you will spend a minimum of six weeks
    broadening your teaching experience.

You will spend four days a week in school, refining your teaching practice under the guidance of experienced mentors, and one day a week on specialised training. This consistent classroom exposure ensures that you continuously develop your confidence and competence as a teacher.

Training and Support

The professional studies programme is delivered by teaching experts, including subject specialists, experienced mentors, and leaders in education.

  • You will work closely with Maths subject specialists, developing the skills needed to teach effectively.

  • You will receive dedicated mentoring, with weekly feedback and guidance tailored to your individual progress.

  • Develop your teaching skills progressively through structured school-based training and lesson observation feedback.

Each placement school will assign you a dedicated mentor who will:

  • Observe your teaching practice and provide feedback.

  • Provide formative feedback to help refine your skills.

  • Hold weekly mentor meetings to guide your progress.

How to apply

We are looking for individuals with a passion for teaching Maths and a desire to make a difference in students’ education.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • A relevant undergraduate degree (typically a 2:2 or higher) in Maths or a related subject.

  • GCSE grade C/4 English and Maths (or equivalent).

  • If you do not hold a degree in Maths or a closely related subject, we will consider applicants with an A-Level in Maths at grade C or above.

  • A desire to develop inclusive teaching practices.
