We are looking for teachers who have the commitment, passion and resilience to make a difference to young peoples’ lives.

Broomfield SILC is a generic special school for pupils aged 2 to 19 years with 3 sites: our main site and 2 partnership sites at Windmill (Primary) and Rodillian (Secondary). Broomfield SILC is organized into 3 Teaching and Learning Groups; Informal, Semi-Formal and Formal TLGs. We also have a Post 16 department. Staff can be expected to work on any of the three sites if required.

The successful candidates could teach in any of our Teaching and Learning groups, depending on their experience and expertise.

The SILC is based in the South of Leeds and caters for a wide range of needs from moderate learning difficulties; severe learning difficulties; complex and multiple learning needs; Autism and social and emotional and mental health needs. Some students have additional needs – physical; medical; speech and language; visual, hearing or sensory impairment. We are a very popular choice for parents and carers and currently have 228 pupils on roll.

Broomfield secured a ‘Good’ Ofsted in March 2023 where inspectors commented that leaders have ‘high ambitions’ and ‘high aspirations for all pupils’ and that ‘staff are proud to work in our school’. We are very proud of our school community where staff are committed to supporting young people to fulfil their potential and prepare them fully for their future, particularly focusing on communication, independence, and emotional regulation.

The successful candidates will have;

  • Experience and skills of teaching pupils with a wide range of Special Educational Needs including ASC
  • The ability to offer a range of inspirational teaching, learning, assessment and behaviour management strategies to ensure learning is engaging and inclusive
  • High expectations, commitment and enthusiasm for both the personal and educational development of all pupils
  • Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills
  • An ability to work collaboratively with parents, carers, multi- professionals and outside agencies
  • The ability to work effectively within a team
  • A passion for education and willingness to support staff in enabling all our pupils to reach their potential

Many pupils are based on our main Broomfield site and in addition some within our mainstream partnership sites - Windmill Music Federation and Rodillian Academy, where opportunities for mainstream inclusion are maximised, if appropriate.
