What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking to appoint a lead teacher of English, with experience of teaching across the ability range to GCSE level. Our students respond well to innovative teaching and learning experiences as well as to calm, enthusiastic and charismatic staff.
The successful candidate will:
- have a passion for teaching and learning especially within the SEN/AP sector
- have excellent subject knowledge
- be flexible and an effective team player
- have effective interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire students
- value, and contribute to, the distinctive ethos of the centre
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a commitment to ensuring that children make rapid progress in a supportive and caring environment.

Barton Moss is a twenty six bed Secure Care Centre located in Eccles on the outskirts of Salford in Greater Manchester within easy reach of the M60 and wider motorway network. We care for remanded and sentenced young males under the age of 18 years of age.
The centre has a proven track record of offering a very high standard of emotional, educational and physical care. This supports young people to succeed in their personal and academic development and return to their community. Our school offers a curriculum base on core and vocational subjects and seeks to ensure pupils receive externally accredited qualifications.
Our school has a mix of qualified teaching staff, Higher Level Teaching Assistants and Teaching Assistants. We are assisted by our health and residential colleagues to support young people during their time at the centre. This provides an exceptional opportunity for young people to make progress and to ensure they have a wealth of opportunities that can prevent re-offending. The schools offers a 50 week curriculum, although teaching staff are covered by teachers pay and conditions the school terms are slightly amended to facilitate this. Changes to school terms include a four week summer holiday with two weeks at October half term and two weeks at February half term.
