What skills and experience we're looking for
The ideal candidates will:
- have experience of teaching children with SEND, in either primary or secondary phases;•
have high expectations of pupil behaviour, attitudes and achievement;
- enjoy teaching an innovative, creative and integrated curriculum which supports pupils who require a multi-sensory approach;
- be enthusiastic, confident and able to show initiative;
- be flexible and adaptable team player with excellent communication and organisational skills;
- be able to effectively liaise with other professionals and external agencies and can work effectively as part of a team ;
- have a friendly manner with a good sense of humour;
- be calm and patient;
- show evidence that they can form positive and professional relationships with pupils, staff and parents;
- have good interpersonal skills and enjoy being part of a supportive team;
- be committed to high quality teaching, learning and assessment.

Heltwate is a highly regarded mixed day special school offering education for pupils aged 4-19 years who have a wide range of interests, abilities and learning needs. We provide the highest quality of education, therapy and care to children who have moderate to severe learning difficulties. In addition, we also offer Autism specific education.
We are a school committed to life-long learning and our education includes the subjects of the national curriculum and more importantly communication, life and social skills.
We are currently situated over two sites, the Heltwate main site is home to Reception to Key Stage 3 pupils and Heltwate @ St George's in Lawn Avenue, Dogsthorpe is where our Post 16 young people are located. In 2023 we expect to open our Jubilee site in Bretton for our Early Years learners.
