Are you ambitious to lead a key department to even greater success?

Are you passionate about how high-quality curriculum thinking, planning and delivery in Politics can transform young people’s understanding of the world?

Are you keen to work in a dynamic school in the heart of London, offering a truly transformative education to all students?

A rare opportunity has arisen to lead our Politics department to greater heights. Outcomes at A Level are strong and improving year on year. Our Sixth Form is exceptionally popular, with over 1500 applications for entry in September 2025, and Politics is one of our most popular social science subjects. Many students progress to top universities to study Politics, PPE, International Relations, Law and related disciplines.

Politics will be the main teaching responsibility of this role. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to offer one or more of the following subjects: Religious Studies, History and/or Geography.

This post offers an exciting opportunity for someone looking to move into middle leadership, or for an existing leader wishing to further develop their leadership in an exceptionally supportive school. For an ambitious and high-quality candidate, additional responsibilities may be offered in future. As such, the post provides rich opportunities for leadership development, including potential secondment to the Leadership Group. Applicants from a GMH background are strongly encouraged, with the school actively involved in the Church of England’s Leaders Like Us programme.

The candidate:

You, like us, will share our belief in the highest standards of academic attainment in a comprehensive setting.

The successful candidate will have:

Strong personal values of integrity and compassion

Excellent subject knowledge in Politics and a commitment to continually developing it

Experience of developing and delivering an excellent A Level Politics curriculum

The ability to teach Politics alongside at least one of the following subjects: Religious Studies, History and/or Geography

The ability to work effectively as part of a wider Social Sciences team

Strong knowledge of curriculum design, assessment and progression

The ability to motivate and lead a team to deliver excellent student outcomes

A keen interest in developing leadership and management skills

An awareness of current best practice and a desire to foster a research-informed approach to designing and implementing a highly impactful curriculum

Cognisance of current best practice and want to foster in others a research-based approach to designing and implementing a highly impactful Politics curriculum.

You will deliver lessons to a consistently high standard, and you will have a proven track record of excellent outcomes at A level.

You will be joining a team of highly skilled subject leaders who are ambitious in ensuring our vision of a powerful knowledge curriculum enables all pupils to take part in the great conversations in society.

"Leaders have introduced a broad and ambitious curriculum for all…and have thought carefully about how to capture students’ wider interest in the subjects they learn." OFSTED 2022
